We are DePaul Dodgeball. We play Monday and Thursday nights, 9:30pm at the Ray Meyer Fitness Center on the third floor basketball courts. All of DePaul is invited, there are no tryouts, no practices, no commitments. Click around and try us out.

It pains me to say it, but there’s only five weeks of dodgeball left. Here’s some news and a list of events for the remainder of the term.

- Midnight Dodgeball and Iron Man Promo Night both went incredibly well. We’re gonna start to do more of these promotion style events as we head into next year for two main reasons… 1. More people, and 2. More headshots.

- I’ll talk about this tonight with The Mouth, but we’re gonna take part in Wild ‘N’ Crazy Demons this weekend. It’s an event to benefit orphanages all around the world, and we get to do a team race through a obstacle course or something awesome like that. Let me know if you’re interested.

- On the heels of the success of Iron Man Promo Night, we’re gonna be working with Chicago Free Movie Screenings for a Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Promo Night. If anybody dresses up as Dr. Jones himself, I’ll make sure they get first choice at all of the free stuff they want. This’ll take place on Monday, May 19th. Tell everyone in your dorm or neighborhood.

- The NDL tournament is right around the corner. We’ll talk about more tonight, and I’ll also send out and email, but it’s on Saturday, May 17th. Teams of 6-10 people, several divisions of play (including a stinger division). Should be a blast. (Word has it Michigan St. may be coming down.)

On Monday we’re having our friends from UIC/Aberdeen come up, as well Dave Soukup (of GVSU fame) and a few dudes from Kent State who used to play for their dodgeball club. Should be a blast. We’re also gonna be filmed by the Club Sports Council for a promo video that night, so make sure you bring your A game, as well as your club t-shirt.

The OSU Tournament was a blast. It involved many of us loving to hate Boom’s Garmin, referring to Pat as Johnny Knoxville, and shaking our faces for Bryan’s camera, among many, many other things. The games themselves were a blast, and our sore bodies are telling of how hard we played. We also made best buddies with the Michigan State Spartan dodgeball squad, who are genuinely amazing people. Now that the Tournament is over, here’s some info for upcoming stuff…
- On Friday, April 25th, Relay For Life is hosting a “Pros vs. Joes” dodgeball event at the Ray @ 12:00 AM (midnight). Talk to Boom for more info on that.
- On Thursday, April 24th, and Monday, April 28th, Renee Luboyeski from Chicago Free Movie Screenings is promoting the new Iron Man movie at dodgeball. There will be prizes, maybe t shirts, and a lot of geekiness. This is gonna be a blast, so make sure you tell all your friends about. The winning team will get free tickets to an advance screening!!
- The date has finally been set for the National Dodgeball League’s amateur tournament here at DePaul. It is now on Saturday, May 17th, and will run tentatively from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. There will be three divisions; Open-Mixed, Open and Stinger (if you don’t know what stingers are we’ll talk about it in the future). It’s 6-man teams so DePaul should have a huge contingency of teams there to pwn. This is gonna be a blast; thank Joe Reyes for moving the date.

Get ready to be rawked tonight at 9:30 as always.

We’re heading off for National Tournament tomorrow. It’s gonna be a blast and the team we’re taking should do really well.

Bring your money tonight if you’re one of the people that’s going. We’ll also have a little meeting afterwards.

In other news, the NDL tournament got moved back even further. I believe it will now be on May 17th. We’ll talk more about it in the future.

The final roster for the tournament at OSU on April 12th-13th is pretty much completed. We’ll have it posted once we confirm with everyone that’s gonna be going. The way we evaluated who’s going to go is based off of team spirit, passion for the game, overall fun factor, and dedication to helping the team do the best that it can. If we could take each and every one of you, we would, but we just don’t have the funds or the room to do that.

In other news, the National Dodgeball League amateur tournament that the Ray is hosting was originally slated to be on Nationals weekend. With some help from the UIC dodgeballers, who also can’t make it that weekend, we got the NDL to change the date to April 26th, from 9:00-1:00 PM. That will allow a lot more participation by our club and our friends from around town.

The first dodgeball for spring term will be Monday, March 31st. You know the time and place.

Tonight is the last night of dodgeball for the winter quarter. We’ll be starting up again on Monday, April 1st. Good luck with your finals.

Also, the shirts are finally being made. They will be here no later than Tuesday of next week, and I’ve been guaranteed that this time. If you have not yet gotten me your money, do so ASAP, or you won’t be getting your shirt.

We’re hosting the DePaul Dodgeball Triad tournament tomorrow at the Ray. University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Delta College are coming to play, with the first game starting at 6:00 PM. The tournament will run until 9:30 PM. Afterwards, we’ll play some DePaul-style dodgeball with all the teams and some DePaul alumni.

Just some news/updates/reminders to hit on…

- T-Shirts are being ordered as we speak. They are gonna be $10. This is the last call for people who still want one. Bring your money to dodgeball tonight, Feb. 21st, or get it to me ASAP. I’ll have a checklist to mark your name off.

- We’re gonna be playing with the NCDA/Tournament rules again tonight. We used them last Thursday and it went pretty well, not a whole lot of confusion. These rules are different than the ones we play with here, so if you are planning on playing with the team at tournaments you should come so you can get to know the differences.

- Speaking of tournaments, DePaul is hosting one on March 1st against University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Delta College, and the National Tournament at Ohio State is tentatively scheduled for April 12th-13th. The tournament roster is close to set, but just to make sure we need to take a tally of who’s actually interested. I’ll also have a checklist for that tonight.

This goes without saying, but dodgeball is on tonight at 9:30 @ the Ray. Bring all your friends you can find.

Thats right, we’re getting shirts. If you want one, you need to get your size, preferred number and name that’ll be on the back to me by TUESDAY. These’ll be both the club shirt and the Tournament “jersey”, so if you’re planning on/interested in playing with us at tournaments or games, you’ll need one of these bad boys. The price is going to be about $12.00.

Shake off the dust, kids, DePaul Dodgeball is back for 2008. Thursday, Jan. 3rd, @ 9:30 PM on the 3rd floor courts at the Ray. As always, we play every Monday and Thursday @ 9:30 for the rest of the quarter.

We’re in the preliminary stages of hosting a 4-team, round robin tournament in early March. If you wanna play, talk to me or Boom over the next few weeks.

Also, we’re gonna get t-shirts this quarter. If you wanna give some input on what they should look like, come tonight and and meet with us at the Student Center afterwards. We’ll be taking sizes for those real soon.

The final dodgeball of the quarter was last night, and there was a pretty solid showing despite finals. Good luck to everyone on the rest of your tests and essays.

Tournament season is right around the corner. We’re not planning on hosting a tournament again, but some matches with other schools are in the works and we’re still planning on heading to the tournament at OSU in the spring. More on that in the coming months.
